A New Short-Form Documentary, "Curt Freeman: In His Own Words," has been Announced!

 By: Andrew Bermudez

(Mustache Maniacs Film Co. Headquarters; October 28, 2025)

Had he lived through today, this day would officially mark the 100th birthday of Curt Freeman, grandfather to Andrew Bermudez and background actor in multiple Mustache Maniacs Film Co. productions. Because of this, we have a special announcement regarding our venture back into live action that began with The Archivist, and it all involves some rediscovered footage!

Curt Freeman: In His Own Words Shares the Story of His Life with the World!

It has been several years since Mustache Maniacs Film Co. has released any documentaries (and those were mostly through Daniel Bermudez Documentaries, which has since blocked any further release of said films), but we're celebrating Curt Freeman's 100th birthday by revealing that we're developing a documentary about his life, told in his words with his memories. Here's the official description.

Discover the life of Curt Freeman, told as he remembers it. His original, genuine voice will describe what his life was like and how growing up in a changing world reshaped his life path. On this fascinating journey through the 20th century, discover how Curt's original goal of entering advertising shifted with the onset of World War 2, leading him to work for the City of Los Angeles. Even though he may be unknown to most of the world, Curt Freeman still shows that every face holds a story worth hearing.

The film currently has no set release date, but more information will be revealed at a later time.

How Is He Sharing His Story Now?

With all of this, you might be asking how he's able to tell his story now, especially since he passed away in 2020. The answer comes from a portrait, an art class, and an archive audit. Back in 2011, Andrew Bermudez was assigned a portrait study in a life drawing class, and part of the assignment was to interview the subject. Andrew Bermudez chose Curt Freeman, his grandfather, and recorded the entire 10-minute interview. The recording was simply made to guide the writing of the written portion of the assignment, but when the Mustache Maniacs Film Co. archive was being audited back in 2023, this interview was rediscovered, still intact, and has now been digitized.

There was just one problem: what should we do with the footage? It was left in the digital archive for a couple years, but as Curt's centennial approached, Andrew came up with an idea: a short form documentary that restores past photos and video and uses the interview as its centerpiece, the only known piece of recorded media that contains Curt Freeman's life story. With that, this film idea was born.

What Will the Film Look Like?

The truth is that this film has just entered development, which mainly consists of gathering the necessary assets to create the documentary. The film will consist of most of the interview (with portions edited out for conciseness) being featured alongside surviving photos and video from his life. If there is no visual representation of him for certain parts of the interview, relevant stock footage will be used instead.

As for the interview footage itself, the visuals will most likely not be used, while the audio is going to be enhanced and overhauled to clean up the sound and remove any background noise. While the potential for sound effects is up in the air, this is also unlikely. The only component of the film that will be created specifically for the movie (besides the title treatment) is the original music score. Since this project is early in development, keep checking back for future updates!
