While we have a lot of upcoming projects on our plate, we have yet another project to announce today, and it's quite an unusual film! All of this and more is in today's press release!
Without a Blacksmith is Coming March 12, 2021!
Have you ever wondered what the world would be like if blacksmiths never existed? That's the question posed by LEGO's newest animation contest, and we're entering with our own film, titled Without a Blacksmith! This film will be our very first alternate history film and will be geared towards children to introduce them to concepts like alternate history and hypothetical thought. Here's the official description.
What would the world look like if blacksmiths never existed? This vignette-style film explores a reality where this deviation in history took place and how the knights of the middle ages managed without refined metal! Our brave knight saunters through the forest, but a robber attacks him! Without a formidable weapon, what will our hero do?
The film is currently in the pre-production stage, with production expected to begin next week. Don't expect it to be a long film however, as the running time will ultimately be 30 seconds.
How Can Without a Blacksmith Possibly Become Canonical?
Fans of our cinematic universe know that we take great care in interconnecting our stories, so how do we manage a film like Without a Blacksmith, which completely contradicts the existing canon? We will be leaving this up to our story team after the film releases on March 12, but we currently have a few options to play around with.
- Make the film entirely non-canon (currently the favored option).
- Create an alternate dimension for the sole purpose of containing this film.
- Explain that Ulysses S. Powell or Dr. Cyber accidentally broke the timeline, then later fixed it, possibly through a short film or story.
- Explain that the knight forgot his armor...and his shield...and his sword...and his helmet (for obvious reasons, this option is not favored, as it also undoes the very premise of the film).
