The Story of the Johnny Thunder Saga: Mustache Maniacs Film Co.'s Most Popular Franchise

Image
By: Andrew Bermudez (Mustache Maniacs Film Co. Headquarters; May 18, 2024)     Today is International Museum Day, so we're going all in today like Dr. Kilroy and creating our own exhibit of the history of the Johnny Thunder Saga, our own franchise adapting the LEGO Adventurers theme! Here's a brief history of that franchise and where it's going today. 2002-2004 - Before the Saga: The Canceled and Lost Johnny Thunder Films     Ever since the early days of the pre-formation era, attempts at creating a LEGO Adventurers-based film were actually fairly commonplace. Some of these used the LEGO Studios Steven Spielberg Movie Maker Set, while others were intended to use more sophisticated software. However, all of these titles were either lost or were canceled during their development. Below is a list of these Johnny Thunder-based films and what they were about, as well as what happened to them. Temple Escape Trilogy  - Oh, boy. Should we even begin with the most...

All New Ask Mark Matthew!

By: Andrew Bermudez (Lego Studios; September 5, 2011)      Last month, the first edition of Ask Mark Matthew went online. Today, we bring you an all new edition featuring 100% new material! Let's get started! Haduken221 writes: You should make a stop motion of Dino island or the amazon? Mark: We are working on a Dino island film, but it will NOT be Johnny Thunder 3. However, the amazon will be part of it but not be the whole film. The reason for this is that the Adventurers amazon sub-theme had very nice colors, structures and vehicles, but it didn't have enough story-wise to justify making a whole movie around it. That's why elements of it will appear in Johnny Thunder and the Wisdom of the Ancients. But enough said about that. The film is, after all, confidential. Themoviefreak1000 and Hollywoodlego both write: Now that I know that those comics are not going to be in the next Johnny Thunder movie, I'm wondering, will they be made into a real stop motion...

First Edition of Ask Mark Matthew!

By: Andrew Bermudez (Lego Studios; August 16, 2011)      Many fans have asked questions in the past, whether it be about our past or current films, our upcoming films, and more. Now, for the first time, Lego Studios CEO Mark Matthew answers YOUR questions! Here are the latest questions: HollywoodLego writes: I have seen the comics you have made about Johnny Thunder on your blog, They are called the Tales of the Adventurers. I'm wondering, are those the storyboards for your next Johnny Thunder film? Mark: No. They are not the storyboards for Johnny Thunder 3. Instead, they tell an all-new, original, story that happens between Johnny Thunder 2 and Johnny Thunder 3. One of the main functions of the comic is to introduce new characters that will appear in Johnny Thunder 3. jacksparrow0457 writes: Historylegoman, I love your movies with Johnny Thunder. Is there going to be a third one and will they ever defeat Lord Sinister and maybe you could give me some ti...

Studio Update: Filming Continues and Another Comic Coming Soon!

Image
By: Andrew Bermudez (Lego Studios; August 8, 2011)      Work at the studio has stepped up recently with the refurbishment of the propertary department. But that isn't the only news for today. There's a lot to cover today, so let's get started!      Out in the rural, kudzu-filled, forests of Georgia, filming for Forest of Fear continues. Right now, as shown in the provided picture, the scene currently being filmed is one with the angry mob and the werewolf. "I knew from day 1 that the angry mob had to work properly, since it's a major part of the movie," said director Seth Masterson. "Otherwise, most of the film falls flat on its face." After this short scene in the forest, the next scene that will be filmed is the one where the windmill burns down.      Also, over at Bricksinmotion.com, a new contest has started called Brickfilm Rapidly All Week Long 2011, or BRAWL 2011. The studio will not release anything for this cont...

By: Andrew Bermudez (Lego Studios; July 28, 2011)      Despite the fact that it was delayed for some time, the next Tales of the Adventurers comic is now online! You can check it out on the "Tales of the Adventurers" page on the Mustache Maniacs Film Co. Website. Don't forget to try out the new challenge and see if you got the last challenge right.      Also, Filming is continuing smoothly for Forest of Fear . Currently, the crew has left a very rural town that was used for Howling Hollow and now has returned to a road deep in the forest for two scenes. First, part of the werewolf scene will be re-shot. Then, the scene where Mary and Leo first enter the forest will be shot.      And if you haven't sent in your questions for Ask Mark Matthew yet, please do so now! Be sure to send your question as a private message to the YouTube user historylegoman. Then check back to this press room on August 1st to see if you're question...

All-New Website and Video!

By: Andrew Bermudez (Lego Studios; June 26, 2011)      Summer has kicked into full gear this past weekend, and with it come two new things. The first is a video titled Wonders of Buoyancy Behind the Scenes . Even though the film itself is old news, this new complimentary behind the scenes video gives insight to the filming of the movie, as well as a frightening, but pointless, deleted scene. "I remember when I first saw the scene that is featured in the new video," said producer Peter Simon. "The movie was moving along, then suddenly it literally screeched to a halt just for this one stupid joke. I hated that scene and ordered it removed, since I am the producer."      The other, and much bigger, thing that was released was the Mustache Maniacs Film Co. website. After a beta test period of one week, the website is now officially live. "Unfortunately, we didn't get any feedback from our fans," said marketing relations head Sam Snead. "The...

Next 'Tales of the Adventurers' Debuts!

Image
By: Andrew Bermudez (Crazyhouse Comics Studio; May 26, 2011)      To start, here is the answer to the previous challenge: Hidden Henchmen.      There are five henchmen hidden in total. In panel 2, two are hiding behind trees in the distance. In panel 3, one is looking through the window in the tent. In panel 4, two are hiding behind the trees behind Lord Sinister, Patrick, and John Parker.      Now, here's the next comic!      This is the next challenge: Going Nuts and Bolts.      Harry has been spending the entire morning checking the rivets on Mariner 442 (the submersible he is repairing in the comic). He noticed that for every four rivets, only one needed to be replaced. If Mariner 442 has 640 rivets, how many did Harry have to replace?      Be sure to check back here next week, when new info and art is released for the Mustache Maniacs Film Co. website,...

"The Duck and the Strawberries" has been Canceled!

By: Andrew Bermudez (Lego Studios; May 13, 2011)      Friday the 13th has always been associated with bad luck, and today this rings true for Freddy and Joey - the Duck and the Strawberries . "It's just that no one liked the script," said studio CEO Mark Matthew. "I have to admit it probably wouldn't have been a success, given by the lack of prominent views for the Freddy and Joey Teaser . I still thought it was better than the script for Ghost Pictures , though." The studio will now go back to the feature-length movie concept for Freddy and Joey .      Instead, the studio is teaming up with CarTOON Shack to present An Afternoon at the Zoo . In this short, three chimpanzees are minding their own business when some rude zoo guests begin to torment them. When the chimps let their imaginations run wild, who is the real ape? The short will be released June 3rd along with Space Attack .      Also, the next Tales of the Ad...

Next 'Tales of the Adventurers' is Finally Here!

Image
By: Andrew Bermudez (Crazyhouse Comics Studio; May 8, 2011)      Today is Mother's Day, and with it comes the next, long-delayed, comic! Before we begin, however, here is the answer to the previous challenge: Lance's Potatoes.      There are five loose potatoes laying on the floor, meaning it will take 5 half hours (150 min.) to peel all of the potatoes. If there are 500 potatoes, then 500 potatoes/150 min. = 3.33 potatoes/minute (the answer is actually non-terminating, but for simplicity, the answer has been rounded to two decimal places).      Now, here is the new comic!      Now it's time for today's challenge: Hidden Henchmen.      Patrick and John Parker aren't the only two men Lord Sinister brought along! How many henchmen can you spot hiding in today's comic?      However, as a note, Yellowstone: the Firestorm of 1988 may not be featured online, so do...

Studio Update: Delayed Comic and More.

By: Andrew Bermudez (Lego Studios; April 14, 2011)      It's been a while since the previous Tales of the Adventurers comic debuted. Sadly, it will be longer before the next comic comes out, since it has been put on hold for the development of the teaser for Freddy and Joey . Do not fret, though. The comic will be available before the end of the month.      Also, aliens will be invading soon with the in-development Flash-created animation Space Attack . "It's not the most imaginative title, but if it's the title the client wanted, so be it," said Steve Brocko, head of the studio's newly-created traditional animation department. This short will be released June 6th, 2011.      As for other projects, Forest of Fear will be creeping in October 2011, Making Tracks will pull into the station Summer 2012, Johnny Thunder and the Wisdom of the Ancients will be revealed Summer 2014, and Freddy and Joey will scurry on in in 201...

Another Tales of the Adventurers and a Freddy and Joey Update

Image
By: Andrew Bermudez (Lego Studios; March 27, 2011)      After a short delay, the next Tales of the Adventurers has arrived! But before we get to it, here is the answer to the previous comic's challenge: Coordinate Confusion.      The correct coordinates for the Berry Islands on the map provided is B-3. Now let's set sail with today's comic. A new standard now will be to feature the challenge afterwards, which will likewise be done here.      Here is the challenge: Lance's Potatoes.      The number of half hours (30 min.) it will take for Lance to peel all of the potatoes around him equals the number of loose potatoes sitting on the floor but not in the pile. If the room contains 500 unpeeled potatoes, how many potatoes can Lance peel in one minute?      In other news, there has been an important update: Freddy and Joey may become an entire movie! "I have plans to make into a t...

Another 'Tales of the Adventurers' and New Cartoons Coming Soon!

Image
By: Andrew Bermudez (Lego Studios; March 6, 2011)      It's time for another edition of Tales of the Adventurers. But before we begin, here is the answer to the previous challenge: Unwanted Guest.      In the third panel, Lord Sinister is poking out from behind some crates on the dock. How did he find out about the treasure? This could turn ugly!      Now, here is the latest comic. The next challenge will be presented afterwards.      Here is today's challenge: Coordinate Confusion.      Use the navigation map in the comic to pinpoint the exact coordinates of where the Adventurers and Deep Sea Salvage Crew need to go (this one may be a little too easy!).      In other news, details have been revealed about the new cartoons the studio announced two months ago. The new cartoons will be a series called Freddy and Joey . Based on original bedtime stories, ...

10th Tales of the Adventurers!

Image
By: Andrew Bermudez (Crazyhouse Comics Studio; February 21, 2011)      It's time for a very special Tales of the Adventurers ! Why? Because this is our 10th comic! A lot has happened since Lord Sinister and Patrick stumbled through the desert and now, the Adventurers and the Deep Sea Salvage Crew will be teaming up for the first time to hunt for pirate treasure! Before we begin, here is the answer to the previous challenge: Samantha's Supplies.      According to the comic, the first aid kits are 9.99, the flashlights are 9.99, the water purification tablets are 2.99, the writing tablets are 19.99, and the cool shades are 7.99. Therefore: 19.99 + (2*9.99) + (3*9.99) + (4*2.99) + 7.99 = $89.89      Now here is today's challenge: Unwanted Guest.      Uh, oh! Someone has followed Johnny to the Bahamas! Can you find this devious treasure hunter hiding in today's comic?      ...

New 'Tales of the Adventurers' now online!

Image
By: Andrew Bermudez (Crazyhouse Comics Studio; February 6, 2011)      Just shortly after the release of the previous Tales of the Adventurers , the next one is now available! But before we begin, here is the answer to the previous challenge: find an electronic musical household decoration.      In the fourth panel, on the wall behind Ace Speedman, is an electronic singing fish (I'm sure we remember those from ten years ago!).      Now here is the next comic. However, this time, the challenge will be presented after the comic.      Here is the next challenge: Samantha's Supplies.      For their next expedition, Samantha buys three flashlights, one writing tablet, two first aid kits, four boxes of water purification tablets and one pair of cool shades (Lance insisted). She thought about getting some scuba suits, but Ace pointed out that they could just use the diving suits the...

Image
By: Andrew Bermudez (Crazyhouse Comics Studio; January 14, 2011)      To start, here is the answer to the previous comic's challenge, find Amset-Ra's six treasures: In the first panel of the comic, the Golden Headdress, Golden Staff and the Soul Diamond are hanging as ornaments on Johnny's Christmas tree. In the second panel, the Golden Sword runs along the left side of the photo frame and in the photo itself, the Golden Scarab Shield rests against Archibald Hale's leg. In the fourth panel, the Golden Crystal is a window label on a window at Crazyhouse Comics Studio.      In today's comic, there is a new challenge: look for a Series 3 collectible minifigure in today's strip.      Also, The First Mustache Maniacs Film Co. Fan Choice Awards has been delayed by one week. The main reason for this is to honor a relative I knew very dearly who has just past away. The awards will now debut January 28th, 2011.  ...

Image
By: Andrew Bermudez (Crazyhouse Comics Studio; December 17, 2010)      Christmas is almost here, and that means more Tales of the Adventurers ! This time, Johnny, Pippin, Sarah and Dr. Kilroy are on an expedition in the arctic. Who knows what they'll find...      Also, during the week, the studio received a letter from none other than the FDNY (no joke)! In the letter, a copy of the Ken Burns-style documentary Worcester Cold Storage Warehouse Fire was requested in DVD form for the department's training program. "It is quite the honor to have one of our films used by one of the most distinguished fire departments," said Daniel Bermudez, the creator of the film. The disc was sent out today, with a hopeful response by the end of the month.      In addition, the 24-hour animation contest film will be written, filmed, edited, and released tomorrow. "However," said Simon Johnathon, the director picked for the film, "The fi...

New Tales of the Adventurers!

Image
By: Andrew Bermudez (Lego Studios; November 3, 2010)      After an anonymous animator proposed, with the studio's permission, to animate the first Tales of the Adventurers comic strip, the studio figured the comic strip is doing well enough to continue it. Therefore, here is the next comic. It picks up where the last one left off.      Can you guess who is on the camel? Write your response in the comments and check out the next strip in two weeks to see if you were right. (HINT: This character is new to the franchise, but is related to a character who was already in the series.)      Also, some of the studio executives will be visiting the Multimedia Productions Backlot for discussions about the future of the action film Red Jungle . "Let's hope the meeting goes well," said Mark Matthew, head of the Lego Studios Board of Directors and CEO.      In other news, Wonders of Buoyancy will be re...
