Our THAC 2025 Entry, "An Imposter's Mission," Has Arrived!

 By: Andrew Bermudez

(Mustache Maniacs Film Co. Headquarters; January 5, 2025)

With the new year having just started and Twenty Years Young now officially behind us, we're now entering a new era of Mustache Maniacs Film Co.: one that is led by our new affiliate team and that is focused on completing our on-going projects! The first of these, An Imposter's Mission, was just released for THAC 2025, the competition's 20th anniversary, so let's see what this is all about!

An Imposter's Mission Has Been Released!

Following up on the events of Galactic Convoy but focusing on that next assignment from a different perspective, An Imposter's Mission puts a sci-fi twist on the classic fish out of water story! This THAC entry concerns a tiny alien, who has arrived on Earth in a humanoid mech suit on behalf of his species to deliver a message to the Ambassador of Flaboo, who is also on Earth. However, it becomes apparent that this tiny alien knows nothing about Earth culture and gets into some tight situations! At the end of the day, the path to delivering that message is not the one that anyone was expecting! This film has been LINKED HERE for viewing, with additional options available across our online network!

Removing the Twenty Years Young Decorations Will Continue Through This Month!

In addition to the release of An Imposter's Mission, we've also taken some time to begin removing the decorations for Twenty Years Young. As you may have seen in An Imposter's Mission, the anniversary logo has been modified to become our new evergreen logo that will now appear at the beginning of all of our films. In addition to this, the homepage of the website has been updated, and the YouTube videos have begun to shed their gold banners. Throughout the month of January, the following traces of Twenty Years Young will be removed:

  • All of the gold banners in the thumbnails across the online network will be removed.
  • All branding banners will revert back to their pre-celebration designs. Only the wiki will receive a new banner in the spirit of the anniversary design (pictured above).
  • The Twenty Years Young logo design will be discontinued in the store and the Gold Logo design will be updated to match the new branding.
  • The "Celebrate Twenty Years Young!" section of the website's home page quick links will be replaced with a new category.
  • The Twenty Years Young page will be updated to reflect the concluded celebration.
  • The Original Cuts releases of our films will no longer appear on YouTube. The special editions will still be visible.

For that last point, there are some things that we need to address to our long-time fans.

Original Cuts No More: Behind the Decision to Remove the Original Cuts Films

While they were just released and were done with the intent of preserving the original versions of our films, the Original Cuts versions of our films will no longer be available on YouTube by the end of this month. It might seem like a shock to all of you that we've made this decision, but we wanted to break down why this decision was made and where you can still find them.

To start off, while we do see and appreciate all of our dedicated fans that have followed us since our founding in 2004, we also realize that we have a new generation of Mustache Maniacs Film Co. fans that never grew up with Johnny Thunder and the Secret of Marco Polo, The Adventures of Legoman, and other films and are now experiencing them for the first time. They're going to be watching these films from a contemporary perspective, and the original versions of these films have not aged well in specific aspects. The special editions partially exist to fix these issues, but these new fans will then also be deeply confused about why two of the same film exists online. This move is to make our films more accessible to a wider audience, as well as to establish the special editions as the "definitive" versions of these films.

But what about the original versions of these films? They will be disappearing from YouTube, but they will still be available on the website on the Original Cuts page. They're being set apart from the special editions so as to once again not confuse anyone and to establish that these versions are all about paying tribute to our history and where we've been. Our fans can still watch these films that way, including the original version of Johnny Thunder and the Secret of Marco Polo.

Our Release Strategy for After The Fourth Mustache Maniacs Film Co. Fan Choice Awards

Like what has already been mentioned last month, after The Fourth Mustache Maniacs Film Co. Fan Choice Awards, we're going to be adjusting how we schedule new releases. No projects are being cancelled because of this change, but you may have noticed that they have lost their projected release years on the wiki. This is to ensure that no more project delays occur. Here is what a new release timeframe will look like, per our new release policy.

  1. When a new project is announced, the announcement will only contain the intent and general premise of the project. No release date will be attached at all.
  2. When said project nears completion and can confidently be recognized as being ready within 6 months' time, then a release window will be announced, usually a season (summer, fall, etc.).
  3. Once the project is complete minus some final technical adjustments, an official release date will be announced. This date will be no more than 3 months from the announcement date.
  4. Once the project is complete and before the release date arrives, the project will be aggressively advertised with the release date. Advertising will continue until 1 month after the release date has passed.

This will affect all releases starting March 2025, regardless of whether the project is a film, book, music album, or anything else.

Official Subtitles Will Be Added to Our Past Films Starting This Year!

Starting with Agent: Thorgood, we've been able to create and implement our own custom subtitle tracks for our films, allowing the hearing impaired to enjoy our films! Since then, every new release has had official subtitles, including An Imposter's Mission, but for all of our films before then and the rereleases, everyone has had to struggle with dodgy AI-generated subtitles that have been... well, never mind. However, that all changes soon, as we're going to be rolling out official subtitles for all of our past films on a rolling basis, starting this year! We're going to start with last year's rereleases, then work through our catalog from there. We're hoping to have this all done by the end of 2026, but if anything changes, we will let you know.
