Today, we are sad to say that Pharaoh's Quest: The Curse of Amset-Ra has been delayed to a later date this year, among other news. Here's the entire break-down.
"Pharaoh's Quest" Delayed to Later this Year!
While we felt back in the Spring that we could finish Pharaoh's Quest: The Curse of Amset-Ra by today, we have fallen behind with completing the editing for the film for today. Because of this, the film has been delayed to an undetermined date later this year. While this does mean that we will miss our summer target time frame, it does mean that the entire film will now be released simultaneously. More news will be announced at a later time.
Studio Policy Changes!
Recently, after evaluating our current productivity and organization, we have decided to change a few policies here at the studio. Morale has diminished recently, so we're hoping to revive some of that enthusiasm with these changes. The changes that go into effect immediately are:
- No More Release Dates Announced in Advance: If you are a long-time fan of ours, you'll know that delays are the norm around here, but scheduling release dates has also caused some of our quality to slip in recent years. Because of this, we will no longer announce release dates. For upcoming films, the words "Coming Soon" will take the place of a release date any film posters (such as the one above) and trailers. We will, however, still release films only on Fridays.
- No More Over-Taxing Film Projects: Another thing that we are known for is creating super-long animated brickfilms, which naturally need that extra time to animate. However, these projects have also been our main source of grief. Because of this, we're going to scale back our overly-ambitious projects to make their development more enjoyable. Pharaoh's Quest: The Curse of Amset-Ra will not be affected by this change.
- No More Required Tie-Ins to Other Areas of the Cinematic Universe: Internally, one complaint that has been floating around recently is the fact that every recent film has been required to be connected to other films in some way. We are no longer requiring this because, while there are loose rules that each film must follow to fit the canon, there are a wealth of stories to tell in the cinematic universe that don't involve characters from other films and stories.
- Stories that Do Not Relate to Project U's Story are Now Permitted Again: Going hand-in-hand with the previous change, we are now allowing stories that do not relate in any way to Project U to be told. Originally, we wanted to focus on this ambitious project, but this was becoming too much of a creative limitation for us. Because of this, stories from throughout the cinematic universe can be told again.
- If Possible, Enter Each and Every Contest on Bricks In Motion: Contests are a great creative outlet for us, so we're going to make sure that we enter as many as possible! And with the above changes now in effect, we will now be allowed to have even more stories to tell!
With these changes, we hope that our variety of films and employee morale improves to the optimal level of quality that we desire. However, there is one more announcement that we are also making to boost morale and increase our productivity.
New Studio Campus In Development!
Once Pharaoh's Quest: The Curse of Amset-Ra wraps production, we're going to go on a hiatus from film production so that we can move to our new studio! This new campus will take the Art Deco architecture of the Golden Age of Hollywood and the iconic Mission Revival style of Southern California and merge it into one amazing, filming-ready studio!
The new studio uses a layout that is virtually identical to the layout of LEGO Studios from the classic LEGO Studios Backlot Game from 2001, with some changes thrown in for good measure. Besides the change in aesthetic from block-y geometric buildings to an Art Deco/Mission Revival hybrid, This new studio also adds a water tower, a third soundstage, and an entire metropolitan backlot to the mix! All of the giant brown doors from the game have been removed and the main offices now sport an impressive mission-style clock tower! The main entrance features call backs to both the LEGO Studios line and Mustache Maniacs Film Co. and any wasted space (such as the propped-up backdrops behind the commissary) has been economized. In this way, we'll be able to accomplish more in an efficient and welcoming manner! This new studio will be ready to go in 2020, just in time for the 20th anniversary of the LEGO Studios line.
