Original Classics as They Were are Returning with "Original Cuts," Coming April 18, 2024!

(Mustache Maniacs Film Co. Headquarters; March 31, 2024)

Even in the midst of this celebration, we've just revealed some new ways to celebrate the day-of twentieth anniversary of Mustache Maniacs Film Co.! In addition to some new music albums and the release of artwork from our canceled projects, we're also introducing a new project titled Original Cuts!

What is the Special Project Original Cuts?

Long story short, Original Cuts is a special project that aims to preserve classic Mustache Maniacs Film Co. movies as they were originally released. We realized during the backup of the physical archive last year that these DVDs are progressively getting worse for wear, and with 2015's DVD Archival Project only backing up the special editions of all of these films, these original versions were at risk of being lost forever. Something had to be done, which is where Original Cuts comes into play.

As mentioned, outside of updating the branding and restoring the picture quality, these films are exactly as they were when they were first released. This does cause some issues with copyrighted music and visuals, but we have a workaround for that.

What Films Will Return and How?

For the return of these films, they will be relaunched on a case-by-case basis. Some will return to YouTube, while others will make their grand (re)entrances elsewhere. They will all have specifically designed thumbnails to distinguish them from the special editions and will not be recognized as canonical for the cinematic universe.

First off, here are the films that will return to YouTube in their original form. If the original films are already online, the previously announced limited engagements will be rescinded and they will permanently stay online.

  • The Adventures of Legoman
  • Air Strike
  • Com 50
  • Com 50 & 007
  • Com 50: Peril In Iran
  • A Friend of the Police
  • Gone Ice Fishin'
  • Indiana Jones and the Egyptian Tomb
  • Indiana Jones and the Forbidden Mayan Temple
  • Johnny Thunder and the Gift of the Nile
  • Johnny Thunder and the Secret of Marco Polo
  • Johnny Thunder and the Wisdom of the Ancients
  • Our World: Islam
  • TBC News: The Volcano Blows
  • Trip to LEGOLAND
  • A Very Patrick Christmas
  • When Barrels Fly
  • Wonders of Buoyancy

Outside of these, there are additional original cuts that, due to issues with the original films (which is why they have special editions in the first place), will instead be released through Google Drive. They may be too similar to the special editions, have massive copyright issues, or may just have file sizes that are too big. These films are:
  • Indiana Jones and the Heart of the Dragon
  • Indiana Jones and the Secret of the Leopard's Treasure
  • Indiana Jones and the Treasure of Tikal
  • Jolly Roger and the Pirate Queen
  • Mystery at Shady Acres
Finally, there are films that have such massive copyright issues that the original cuts won't even be released online at all. Those films are:
  • Com 50-3: Raid on Central Island
  • Kilroy Was Here!
The website will receive a special page dedicated to Original Cuts on April 18, the same day that these films are released.

Does This Affect any Films Currently Available and Coming Up?

Long and short answer: no. The Original Cuts films are being released in this manner simply for archival, educational, and informative purposes. If a film's special edition is already online, it will stay online as that film's "canonical" version. On top of this, if a film's special edition has yet to be released online, the original cut will still debut on April 18. One thing worth mentioning, however, is that some of the still-available older films will need to have their branding updated. Because of this, both of the first two Johnny Thunder films will be temporarily unavailable from April 13-17. Both will return with the updated branding on April 18.
