Studio Update: What is the Longest Brickfilm of All Time?

As we have continued to research the history of LEGO animation, we have discovered that we shared some mis-information several years ago. Johnny Thunder and the Secret of Marco Polo was never the longest brickfilm ever made. To find out which one was, and still is, read on.

Johnny Thunder and the Secret of Marco Polo was Never the Longest Brickfilm in History
Back on August 24, 2008, we announced the release of Johnny Thunder and the Secret of Marco Polo with the declaration that it was the longest brickfilm in history. After conducting some research in recent days, however, we have discovered that this statement was never true, not by a long shot. This isn't to discredit its long length, but there are other brickfilms that are longer. MUCH longer. This, then, brings up the question on everyone's mind.

What is the Longest Brickfilm in History?
In conducting research for or on-going Wiki project, Wiki Mondays: Quarantine Edition, we have scoured brickfilming archives from the advent of the LEGO Studios Steven Spielberg Movie Maker Set up until now, and have compiled this list that we believe is complete. For the sake of this list, we are excluding any theatrically-released, official films, even though those are listed on the Brickfilms Wiki. Listed next to each film is its release year, affiliate name, and running time. Click on each name to find out more about each film (please note that The Ice Storm is no longer online).
  1. The Wars of Darkness (2005; AJ Belongia; 245 min.)
  2. BIONICLE IGNITION 2 (2017; Noah Productions; 184 min.)
  3. KastleVania IV: Vanian Legenda (2012; HOViNET Team; 146 min.)
  4. BIONICLE IGNITION: Island of Doom (2015; Noah Productions; 116 min.)
  5. The Ice Storm (2010; Behind the Mind Films; 107 min.)
  6. Johnny Thunder and the Secret of Marco Polo (2008; Mustache Maniacs Film Co.; 100 min.)
  7. Tapporalli 2066 (2006; Johannes Rojola; 92 min.)
  8. Johnny Thunder and the Wisdom of the Ancients (2014; Mustache Maniacs Film Co.; 87 min.)
  9. Star Wars: The Great Disturbance (2004; Leftfield Studios; 74 min.)
  10. Tapporalli 2020 (2002; Johannes Rojola; 69 min.)
If you are reading this list right, you will notice that, not only is The Wars of Darkness the longest brickfilm ever created, its running time clocks in at a whopping 4 HOURS! Not even the second-longest brickfilm, BIONICLE IGNITION 2, staggers anywhere near that running time, though its own 3-hour running time is not something to discount, either. However, LEGO Studios CEO Mark Matthew wants that to change.

Will Legends of the Universe Claim the Crown from The Wars of Darkness?
That's what Mark Matthew is hoping for with the latest re-write of Legends of the Universe, which is adding new dialogue, character moments, and a completely new sequence."The way I see it, this film is already projected to be three and a half hours long," said LEGO Studios CEO Mark Matthew. "I want Project U to go out with a bang, and the best way to do that is to conclude this saga with the longest brickfilm in history." Re-writing on this film is on-going, which is expected to be completed over the summer.
However, some are opposed to the changes, calling it, "over-stuffing an exploding pillow," and "bragging rights at the expense of good story-telling." However, the in-house writing department has assured everyone that they wish to only improve the script via this mandate. They have even assured long-time fans of LEGO Universe that these changes will bring more memorable material from the game into the film. This film currently has no release date, but it will be the last of the twelve Project U films released.

Another Short Film Coming May 29!
In the meantime, we would like to announce that we have another short film coming up on May 29! It is confirmed to happen, though very few details can be shared about the film at this time. Once we have everything confirmed internally, we'll post an official announcement. Until then, stay tuned!

Patrick: The Movie to Begin Filming This Month!
After that aforementioned short film wraps up production, we are pleased to say that Patrick: The Movie will begin principal photography! "I am honored to be here, directing the origin story of Patrick Hooligans," said Barry Hollows, the film's director. "Everyone here already knows that he's a fan-favorite character, so we all know that this will be a massive undertaking. However, rest assured, I can confidently tell all of Patrick's fans, as well as fans of my films, that this is going to be the best origin story movie ever made!" The film has no release date, but should be released in a year's time.

Lead Out
We apologize for spreading mis-information for the past twelve years, but we hope that this press release can clear up any confusion.
